Guide overview

Why Syria does not have one monthly nationwide rent-increase percentage equivalent to Türkiye’s CPI renewal cap.

Syria does not currently publish a single monthly nationwide rent-increase percentage equivalent to Türkiye’s twelve-month CPI renewal ceiling. For many residential contracts concluded after Law No. 6 of 2001, and commercial contracts after Law No. 10 of 2006, rent and renewal terms are primarily governed by the parties’ agreement.

Older contracts that remain under statutory extension follow a different framework. Law No. 20 of 2015 also addresses registration, enforcement and court valuation. This means the correct calculation cannot be determined from one national percentage: the contract date, use, registration, duration and applicable legal regime must first be identified.

A safe review begins with the signed contract, proof of ownership, registration record, payment history and any renewal clause. A Syrian lawyer should confirm the applicable rule before changing the rent or serving notice.

  • Modern contracts rely on agreed terms
  • Older protected contracts follow different rules
  • Registration matters
