The latest World Bank damage and reconstruction estimates and what they mean for property due diligence.
The World Bank’s nationwide assessment estimates Syria’s reconstruction cost at USD 216 billion, within a range of USD 140–345 billion. Direct physical damage was estimated at USD 108 billion, including USD 33 billion in residential buildings.
Residential reconstruction alone was estimated at USD 75 billion. Aleppo, Rural Damascus and Homs were among the most severely affected governorates. These are national-scale estimates, not property valuations or forecasts of individual investment returns.
For buyers and owners, the practical lesson is to verify title, occupancy, structural condition, infrastructure access, planning status and any damage classification before relying on a project announcement or asking price.
